Chinese social media platform TikTok took the problems it could not overcome with the US government to court. ByteDance, the owner of the social media application, filed a lawsuit against the US government due to the unfair imposition of the US government. So why?
US government’s response to TikTok: “If you don’t want to be banned, sell it!”
Tension between China and the USA continues. The USA, which is trying to neutralize every point it can reach, has now taken control of TikTok. The government, which banned TikTok in its country, now offers the Chinese company two options: Either transfer the application completely to someone else or be banned in the USA.
TikTok CEO, who completely rejected this offer, said in his first statements: “We are not going anywhere!” He made a statement like this. However, the company, unable to withstand the unfair imposition of the USA, took the issue to court. In the lawsuit submitted to the Washington Court of Appeals, it was stated that the law in question was unconstitutional.
Stating that the government’s offer is neither commercially, technologically nor legally possible, TikTok managers oppose the impositions of the USA. Stating that the application poses a national security threat, the USA says that TikTok obtains information belonging to American citizens and transmits it to China.
Although TikTok management completely rejects these allegations, they clearly state that they will not accept the government’s offer. The US government gives ByteDance until January 19, 2025 to sell the application. Otherwise, it is said that TikTok cannot be used in the USA.
It is not known how correct this decision about TikTok is, but it is not difficult to see that there are other reasons behind the scenes. What do you think about the US government banning TikTok? You can express your ideas in the comments.
